Cheers star George Wendt, 76, looks frail in wheelchair during rare outing
Cheers star George Wendt looked frail as he was seen being wheeled out of a treatment centre during a rare public outing in the San Fernando Valley.
The actor, 76, made his name in the 80s sitcom Cheers in which he played the cheerful bargoer Norm.
In recent years, the actor has rarely been seen out and about and he appeared to be in ill-health as he was seen visiting the health centre.
George was seen using a wheelchair as he was assisted into a dialysis clinic and spent time in the facility.
The reclusive actor was picked up after three hours by his wife of 45 years, actress Bernadette Birkett, 78.
It’s unclear what is specifically ailing the actor, as George has kept his health issues private.
It is known that the actor last had a public health scare in 2012 when it was reported that he was hospitalised with chest pains.
At the time, the actor was performing in a local production in Chicago. It was later reported that he had undergone coronary bypass surgery after doctors found a constricted artery.
The actor was last seen in public earlier this year when he teamed up with his TV colleagues including Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Rhea Perlman and John Ratzenberger for the Emmy Awards in January.
Before the Emmy Awards, the actor was last seen out and about in September 2022.
Cheers was a hugely successful comedy series in the 1980s and ran for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993.
The show was almost cancelled after the first season due to low ratings but went on to become one of the most-watched TV shows on the network.
After Cheers ended in 1993, George starred in his own sitcom, The George Wendt Show which debuted in 1995 but was cancelled after just a few episodes.
The actor went on to appear in Santa Buddies, The Little Rascals, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Columbo and Wings.
